Dear Editor,
I am writing on behalf of the residents who live close to the Kitty Seawall and are affected by the constant noise nuisance on the Kitty Seawall.
An appeal against noise pollution on the seawall started in the year 2008 by the residents of Sheriff Street, Subryanville and Bel Air.
In 2018 no more parties were allowed due to guests at Marriott Hotel being affected.
We can go on and on about the indecent obnoxious noise nuisance at the Kitty Roundabout. We the residents of the Kitty Public Road to Shell Road and Stanley Place cannot sleep from 5:00 pm to 2:00 am on the weekends especially Sunday evenings as our windows and doors rattle with the booming noise of huge speakers powered by generators which are in vehicles parked with no discretion for the sick, the elderly, babies, working people and students, persons studying and even animals. Vehicle alarms go off constantly adding to the already annoying noise being made.
We the residents are frustrated having to get up early to go to work the next day with headaches and vomiting due to the lack of sleep caused by migraines, but in the end, we have to get to work to put food on our tables, pay bills and send kids to school while those making the noise don/t care a damn about the residents, sleeping the whole day after imbibing, eating, dancing and partying in public view.
Numerous calls have been made to the Kitty, Brickdam and Alberttown police stations and we get responses from police like this:
1. Is me alone here I can’t leave the police station
2. We don’t have vehicles to send
3. We will be there shortly
4. The patrol on another issue you have to wait
5. The patrol called at 6 pm and the patrol reaches at 12:30 am
6. Last but not least one officer said I quote “madam you have to expect that noise nuisance calls and messages were sent to Minister Benn, the Commissioner of Police, EPA and other relevant agencies”.
Can someone in the relevant authority advise us the residents where and what to do next?
Finally police patrols when reaching the scene, the volume lowers and soon as they leave the volume doubles.
Honourable President Mr. Irfaan Ali, Ministers of the Government, and all the relevant agencies we do wish you were living here or put your feet in our shoes for one single weekend.
The patrons of these events dump their bottles, boxes etc all over which may later be picked up and put in trash bags which are then given to the “Junkies” to dispose of and yes you guessed it. In the drains, trenches and parapets. Take a look on Stanley Place, Kitty you will see it for yourself.
Yours truly,
(name and address supplied)
