The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) outflanked newcomers Alpha 3 – 1 when the Demerara Volleyball Association (DVA) senior men’s league continued Monday evening at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
The army unit got off to the worst possible start, as they conceded the first set by a 16 – 25 score. The loss clearly rejuvenated the side as they went on to win the next three sets and the match.
First they levelled the score at 1 – 1 after winning the second set in dominant fashion 25 – 12. GDF then took the lead at 2 – 1, after prevailing by a 25 – 21 score in the third set. The come-from-behind result was then sealed, as GDF claimed the fourth set 26 – 24.
The event continues today at the same venue with a solitary fixture from 20:00hrs between Eagles and Alpha.
