STEMGuyana, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting STEM education in Guyana, is launching its annual National Scratch Coding Competition.
In a press release STEMGuyana said that the competition theme for this year will be the creation of a 2-minute Scratch animation project reflecting research on the effects of climate change on their community or country. The release said that teams must have access to a computer or tablet with internet access and should include several functions such as sound, one or more sprites, and movement in their animation. Teams are also encouraged to research the topic thoroughly and to let their creativity and fun shine through their projects.
According to STEMGuyana’s release, the virtual challenge is open to mixed teams of students from all ten regions of Guyana, ages 8 to 15, and is sponsored by the Inter-American Development Bank and GTT. The deadline for submissions is March 15th, 2023. The winning teams will receive certificates, tablet computers, and other prizes. The release says that through participation students from all public schools, clubs, churches, homeschools, and private schools will be able to showcase their knowledge and creativity while learning about the effects of climate change in a fun and interactive way.
