Four penalty shoot-out results highlighted the quarterfinal section in the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ West Demerara championship, as Showstoppers, Jetty Gunners, Ballerz Empire, and Bagotstown Warriors secured semi-final places on Saturday evening at the Pouderoyen Tarmac.
Witnessed by a large crowd, former three-time champion Showstoppers battled past West Side Ballers by a 2-0 score-line on penalty kicks following a 1-1 result at the end of full time. The combination of Dexroy Adams and Stephon Jupiter was clinical from the distance, as they converted to seal a sixth consecutive semi-final appearance.
Showstoppers will now meet Jetty Gunners for a place in the final after the latter edged Up Like 7 compliments of a 6-5 score on sudden death penalty kicks after regulation time ended 0-0. Kevin Cummings held his nerve to convert the winning penalty and ignite wild celebrations on the field.
On the other hand, Bagotstown Warriors got the better of ESPN 1-0 on penalty kicks, following a 0-0 score at the end of full time. Bagotstown opponent in the next round, Ballerz Empire, also required a penalty shoot-out to prevail, winning by a 2-0 score after regulation time ended scoreless.
In the Plate section, Ramsay Clan brushed aside Hillside 4-0 while Red Triangle made light work of Team Upset by an identical score. Meanwhile, Pouderoyen Brothers edged CN Ballers 1-0 and Team Anti-Social defeated Up Top Bosses via walkover.
The semi-final and finals for both sections will commence at the same venue on Friday 17th. Below features the complete results.
