Under the theme “Wheels of Progress – Creating and Promoting Diversity and Inclusion for all”, the Ministry of Education yesterday launched its Mashramani Band at its office at 26 Brickdam, Georgetown.
Deputy Permanent Secretary, Indrani Ramnarine spoke on behalf of Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand and Permanent Secretary, Alfred King who could not attend the launch.
“Today we are here for this launch after two years of being deprived of not having our Mashramani competitions. Education is big, we are because we take up all the regions and we have been representing ourselves already in 2023, the regional Mash competitions for our children have already been pulled off and we will be seeing the national children’s competition at the Cultural Centre on the 16th, 17th and on the 18th our children’s parade”, Ramnarine noted.
She reminded the audience that it’s a “big thing” and “we’re back this year so gear yourself to be a part of that activity as you take the streets of Georgetown leading to Everest Cricket Club”. She also added that a team of people has been working extremely hard behind the scenes.
The costumes were designed this year by Neilson Nurse of Nandre’s Creations. According to Nurse, he has worked behind the scenes and he’s not going to give out any details of the costumes because that is for the judges to hear.
“What I know is over the years the Ministry of Education has been one of the most eye-catching bands and has always been one of the most creative bands and one to look forward for every year.” Nurse said.
