Two persons are now at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after they were shot at during a fight at New Forest, East Canje Berbice during the wee hours of yesterday.
Rafeek Khan, 49, a watchman of Betsy Ground Village, East Canje Berbice and Luke Persaud, 41, a labourer also of Betsy Ground are the two persons who have been hospitalized.
Khan had to undergo emergency surgery, as according to his sister he sustained injuries to his stomach, hand and face. Luke sustained minor injuries to his face.
According to information gathered, the injured men along with their employer Diven Bissoon and Andre Ramessar, 42, were in New Forest where Bissoon is rearing livestock when the two suspects arrived at the location.
Persaud’s sister, Gail Persaud, explained that Luke told her that they were all imbibing at the location when the two suspects, who would usually hunt in the area, arrived and joined them.
A fight ensued around 3 am during which one of victims placed the men’s guns outside of the yard which further upset them. “He said them chase them and tell them to leave”, Gail relayed.
According to her, she was told that the men then picked up their guns and opened fire at the location. “Luke say them had to brace the door with a chair na fa let them man get to come in and when them fire the one guy (Khan) get hit and the fragments catch Luke in he face.”
Commander of Region Six, Shivpersaud Bacchus yesterday said that the suspects and one other person were held for questioning.
