A miner had to be air-dashed to a city hospital after sustaining critical injuries when an attempt was made to murder him
Ryan Williams, a 22-year-old miner of Byderabo Village, Essequibo River, was airlifted to Georgetown with life-threatening injuries by the Guyana Defence Force, after three suspects attempted to murder him during an argument on Thursday at about 4 pm.
According to a police release, ranks from Regional Division #7 are investigating an alleged attempt murder committed on Williams that occurred at Byderabo Road, Bartica. The suspects are aged 17, 20, and 25.
Annalisa Pereira, the reputed wife of the victim, stated that Williams and the suspects, two of whom are brothers, are neighbours and friends.
On Thursday, Williams, under the influence of alcohol, had an argument with the 20-year-old suspect’s girlfriend, which subsequently subsided. However the matter escalated again when the other brother returned home and learnt about the argument they had earlier.
The two brothers and the 17-year-old female then went to Williams’ house and confronted him. During the argument, they allegedly dealt him several blows about his body and head with a piece of wood, causing injuries.
Pereira then took her husband to the Bartica Regional Hospital for medical attention, and while there he lost consciousness. He was admitted but had to be air-dashed to the Georgetown Public Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
A report was subsequently made to the police and the 20-year-old and 17-year-old suspects were arrested. They are presently in custody. Efforts are underway to arrest the 25-year-old suspect.
Investigations are ongoing.
