In excess of 300 teen athletes will get into the blocks from 10:00hrs today to compete in the inaugural edition of the National Sports Commission’s (NSC) Junior League.
This is according to President of the Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG), Aubrey Hutson.
Hutson told this publication yesterday that quite a lot is at stake during this weekend’s two-day event at the National Track and Field Centre since the young stars will have their first opportunity to punch their tickets to this year’s CARIFTA Games in The Bahamas.
The event, will be used to select Guyana’s team to the 50th edition of the event.
This year, the annual fixture will return to The Bahamas.
The Thomas Robinson Stadium will host the event from April 7 to April 10.
Standout local junior athletes will be eager to reach or surpass the qualifying standards set by the AAG in order to compete among the Region’s best during the Easter weekend.
The meet should be highly competitive as there are several rivalries among the nation’s teen track and field athletes.
Tianna Springer, Attoya Harvey, Javon Roberts, Eron Leitch, Ezekiel Newton, Ezekiel Saul and Duel Europe are among the standout athletes who have enjoyed early season success in the track and in the field so far and should highlight this weekend’s activities.
