Titanic fixtures will highlight this evening’s semi-final round in the inaugural Rocks Auto Trans and Spares Parts ‘Legendary Cup’ Futsal Championship at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue, as Sparta Boss takes aim at Back Circle, and Bent Street faces off against Tiger Bay.
The opening semi-final will pit Bent Street against Tiger Bay from 20:00hrs. The feature contest between fierce rivals Sparta Boss and Back Circle will then take centre stage at 21:00hrs. A 4-3 victory over the dangerous Stabroek Ballers sealed their semi-final appearance. They will once again depend on the core of Selwyn Williams, Stephon Reynolds, Jermaine Beckles, and Stephon McLean to propel them to victory.
On the other hand, Sparta Boss defeated BV via a 3-1 score to earn another berth in the four final division. Another spirited performance led by the cast of Sheldon Shepherd, Eusi Phillips, Jermin Junior, and Pernell Schultz will be required if they are to emerge victorious.
The resulting winners will progress to the final which is penciled for February 25th. The losers will compete in the third-place playoff.
Wayne ‘Harry’ Griffith, coordinator of the tournament said, “All systems are a go for a wonderful evening of football. The event has exceeded expectations and the quality of play that has been exhibited must be commended. The teams have certainly delivered and the fans have been very supportive and appreciative of the competition and couldn’t have asked for a better grouping of matches of the semi-final section.”
He added, “These four teams have been the best in the event to date so it’s fitting that they remain in the business end of the tournament, and have the chance to be crowned the maiden champion of the competition. It’s been an incident-free tournament, the teams and the fans have exhibited discipline and patience and we are very appreciative as we aim to end the event on a high note.”
The winner of the tournament will pocket $500,000 and the championship trophy. On the other hand, the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $250,000, $150,000, and $100,000 respectively.
