The Georgetown Cricket Association’s (GCA) U15 cricket team extended its dominance in Demerara by beating West Demerara by 10 wickets in the Demerara Cricket Board U-15 Inter-Association 50-over tournament yesterday.
West Demerara won the toss and elected to bat first but were routed for 64 in 36.3 overs out of their allotted 45 overs. GCA needed just 8.5 overs to win the match their openers racing to 65 without the loss of a wicket.
In West Demerara’s innings, extras were the main contributor towards the total with 28.
Skipper, Parmeshwar Ram was the only batsman to reach double figures, resisting with a patient 55-ball 14 before he was bowled by left-arm spinner, Joshua Charles. Ram battled for over 15 overs, adding 44 for the opening partnership with Mahindra Mohan who made nine from 67 balls before he too was bowled by Charles who ended with 2-5 from six overs. After the opening partnership, West Demerara lost 10 wickets for just 20 runs.
Five West Demerara batsmen failed to get off the mark and two of them only scored one run. Leg spinner, Reyaz Latif, was the pick of the bowlers with 3-5 from seven overs while Brandon Henry supported with 2-7 from six overs.
When it was GCA’s time to bat, Ravin Singh piloted the chase with 37 not out from 30 balls. He struck eight boundaries and got support from Lomar Seecharran who made 18 not out from 27. His innings was highlighted by three boundaries. West Demerara did not help themselves, gifting 10 extras.
