When the Georgetown Cricket Association’s Atlantic Marine Supplies Suzuki motorcycles second-division T20 tournament continued Saturday, 4R Lions, Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) and Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) all recorded victories. At GCC, Diplomats won the toss and opted to bat first, posting 100 all out in 18.4 overs. 4R Lions responded with 101 for one in 18.1 overs to secure a nine-wicket win.
Royson Grill made 26 from 25 balls while Rickford Mohammed chipped in with 10 but no other batsman reached double figures and extras top scored with 33. Natron Gill was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-16 and was supported by Sanjay Algoo with 3-17 and Romeo Deonarain who bagged 2-4.
Deonarain returned to pilot the chase with 47 not out from 57 balls after hitting two boundaries including a six. Deonarain shared an 82-run partnership with Sachin Balgobin who made a 42-ball 32. Rashaad Gafoor then saw his side over the lone with 13 not out.
In the following game at the venue, GCC continued their dominance by adding Guyana National Industrial Cooperation (GNIC) to their list of victims, recording a six-wicket win in an 18-over low-scorer.
GNIC won the toss and posted 95 for five after they decided to bat first. GCC then coasted to 101 for four with two overs to spare.
GCC’s skipper, Devon Lord took 2-13 to limit the scoring options of GNIC. David Dick top scored with 29 not out from 20. His innings featured four boundaries and he was supported by Jevon Collins (18) and Jeffrey Blair (17).
Lord came back with bat in hand to lead his side to victory with 33 not out from 29 balls. His innings featured two sixes and one four and he shared an unbroken 49-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Rivaldo Phillips who made 22 not out from 25 balls. Joshua Wade had earlier gave GCC the foundation with a 13-ball 22, smashing three fours and a six. Jeremiah Benjamin took 2-28 for GNIC.
Meanwhile, at MSC, the hosts secured a five-wicket win over the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC). Asked to bat, DCC posted 128 for six in 20 overs and MSC reached 122 for five with an over to spare.
Jadon Campbell showed his class with 61 not out for DCC, hitting four sixes and three fours during his 49-ball innings. DCC’s innings was also indebted to Sachin Singh (29) and Jonathan Van Lange (11). Trevon France and Mark Cumberbatch took two wickets for nine and 15 runs respectively for MSC.
Shemroy Barrington steered MSC to victory with 48 from 29 balls after striking five sixes and two fours before being trapped leg before wicket to Kareem Whitney.
After losing his opening partner, Miguel Parks in the first over, Barrington then shared a vital 64-run partnership with Jeremiah Scott (15) for the second wicket.
Jamal Norton chipped in with 32 not out from 43 balls with contributions coming from Judel McAllister (12) and Daniel Ross who made 13 not out from five balls including two consecutive sixes off of Dexter George over long on to end the match.
