The recently-elected Demerara Cricket Board has announced that the 2023 season will get underway shortly with a new Inter-Club 50-overs-a-side knockout tournament for first-division clubs.

According to a release from the DCB, the tournament is set to start Saturday, the same day that the Guyana Cricket Board’s senior Inter-County four-day tournament first round gets underway.

Despite that the DCB rerelease stated that ..  “All the top players in the county of Demerara are expected to participate.”

“The new marketing committee, which will be led by Anil Beharry, professional banker, and former Berbice Cricket Board president, has already secured sponsorship for this competition,” the release noted.

This decision was made at the first meeting held at the La Bonne Intention Cricket Facility on February 11, by the executives and DCB president, Bissoondyal Singh, who is also the GCB president.  Cricket clubs are asked to contact Kavita Yadram, Chairperson of the Competitions Committee on 655-1010 as well as DCB secretary, Davteerth Anandjit, on 617-8502 or any other executive member of the DCB.  That tournament will be followed by the Inter-Association Under-17, Under-19, Under-21, Under-23, Senior T20 and Senior 50-overs-a-side competition.  According to the DCB, they have already engaged sponsors for the mentioned tournaments but did not highlight if they were secured.

“Outside of the competitions, the Board will conduct training for scorers, umpires, match referees, coaches, and seminars for players and every activity that will improve the game in Demerara. Fundraising activities are also high on the agenda,” the release stated.
