Thousands of Essequbians yesterday celebrated Guyana’s 53rd anniversary as a republic in carnival style. Revellers decked out in colourful attire and glitter-dusted faces gathered at the Three Friends Bridge where the road show commenced.
The costume and road show proceeded to the Anna Regina car park where thousands of persons gathered to witness the showdown as revellers showed off their dancing skills.
Participating in the large float category was the Regional Administration Police Youth group and the Anna Regina PPP cluster. In the small float category were the Department of Education revellers, Regional Health Services, Team Mainstay, and the Guyana Power and Light. Participating for the fun were Jaigobin Hotels and Celeste Boutique.
The revellers were entertained with music supplied by massive sound systems as they waved their Guyana flags. Floats were decorated according to this year’s republic theme, “Mixing and mashing as One Guyana”.
Onlookers were caught up in the mood as they watched the revellers dance and gyrate. Many persons mentioned that they looked forward to having the parade after not being able to celebrate for two years due to Covid-19 restrictions.
The costume and road show was organised by the Region Two Mashramani committee to usher in Guyana’s 53rd Republic Anniversary.
“We really enjoyed this year, the energy was great, the rain did not stop persons from coming out” a visibly excited onlooker said.
