Fine, community service for US man with ‘joints’

A visitor from the US who tried to smuggle twelve rolled ‘joints’ of cannabis into Guyana on Thursday was ordered to do three days of community service and fined a total of $30,000 after he pleaded guilty to the possession of narcotic charge that was read to him.

The defendant, 30-year-old Delroy Julius Seaforth of New Jersey, United States of America, made his appearance at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Judy Latchman where he admitted to having in his possession 16.8 grams of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking on February 23 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.
