The inaugural Rocks Auto Trans and Spares Parts ‘Legendary Cup’ Futsal Championship will culminate this evening at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue when heavyweights Bent Street and Back Circle battle in the grand final from 21:00hrs.
Competition coordinator Wayne ‘Harry’ Griffith said, “Following five nights of thrilling action, we are at the final hurdle and that is to crown a champion.
Back Circle and Bent Street are the two best teams in the tournament and have displayed their championship credentials since the inception of the event, so the fans who have shown tremendous support through the entirety of the tournament can expect a wonderful and exciting match to culminate the competition. We expect huge support and a wonderful atmosphere from a tournament that has been incident free and for that, we want to commend the fans and the players. Overall, may the best team win.”
Comprising a plethora of national players in the form of Daniel Wilson, Colin Nelson, Quincy Adams, Marcus Wilson, Trayon Bobb, and Akel Clarke, Bent Street stormed into the championship match, after demolishing Tiger Bay 7-2 in the previous semi-final section.
Bent Street have also bested the likes of Vryheid’s Lust, Beterverwagting, and Vengy during their campaign. Offensively, Bent Street has tallied 15 goals in four matches at an average of 3.75 conversions per fixture. Defensively, the Bent Street unit possesses the best record, as they have only been breached three times during this period.
Meanwhile, Back Circle, which is made up of emerging stars such as Stephon McLean, Selwyn Williams, Jermaine Beckles, and Stephon Reynolds, thrashed Sparta Boss 5-1 in the semi-final section to earn their appearance in the championship encounter.
On the other side, Back Circle punched their ticket to the final, after embarrassing fierce rival Sparta Boss 5-1 in the semi-final round. The East Ruimveldt giant also scored contrasting victorious against Melanie, Leopold Street, and Stabroek Ballers.
From the attacking perspective, Back Circle sport an imperious record with 24 conversions at a rate of six per match. The East Ruimveldt outfit also possesses an equally capable defensive record, as they have only allowed four goals during this period.
In the third-place playoff, Sparta Boss will face off with Tiger Bay from 20:00hrs. The winner of the tournament will pocket $500,000 and the championship trophy. On the other hand, the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $250,000, $150,000, and $100,000 respectively.
On the individual side, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) will receive one motorcycle. Similarly, a patron will receive one motorcycle on the night of the final.
