The rampant Panthers remained undefeated after mauling the GDF outfit, 73-17 when the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) 12s League continued on Sunday at the National Park.
This is according to a release disseminated to the media by the union.
According to the release, the Panthers roaming on a high following their 24-19 victory against the Police Falcons in the opening match of the league, wasted no time soiling their scoresheet.
At the end of the first half, Panthers were up by 42 points, with GDF scoring all of their 17 points in the first half.
The release stated that the Panthers’ Rondel ‘Bull’ McArthur, who was named man-of-the-match, opened the scoring by crashing through the opponent’s defence.
He was followed by Jacques Archibald who made a return to the sport and scored a try. Elusive winger Ryan Dey added a try as did Daniel Anderson. Phabian Joseph D’Arcy Durant recorded two apiece while Kempton David put his name of the scoresheet with a try and a conversion.
Godfrey Broomes kept the team on firm footing, further littering the scoresheet with 19 points, 14 of which came off his boots.
GDF points came from veteran Avery Corbin, Jonathan David, Peabo Hamilton and a conversion from Jamal Darrell.
To start the match, players, officials and spectators observed a minute of silence, for the passing of McArthur’s father, earlier in the day.
On Saturday, the GRFU will be hosting a 7s competition in the National Park from 10:00 hours.
A day later, the 12s league continues with a match involving the Police Falcons and GDF.
