The Kumaka and Morawhanna stellings in the north west are set for major upgrades this year.
In an invitation for bids in today’s Sunday Stabroek, the Ministry of Public Works estimates that the upgrading of the Kumaka Stelling in Barima/Waini will cost $1.9b. Work at the Morawhanna Stelling is estimated to be $784m.
Bids will be opened on March 22.
Over the years, there have been major outlays on the Kumaka Stelling. For instance in the 2021 budget, Minister of Finance Ashni Singh had announced that $1.2b was being allocated for rehabilitation of the Kumaka, Morawhanna and Port Kaituma stellings. There had also been expenditure on the Kumaka Stelling in 2020.
