A 37-year-old porter was killed early yesterday morning when a lorry turned turtle on the Toroparo Trail, Cuyuni-Mazaruni.
A police release identified the dead man as Troy Alexander Davis of Tabatinga Housing Scheme, Lethem. The vehicle, GYY 7764, was at the time driven by its owner Hubert Beharry, 43, of Number 27 Village, West Coast Berbice.
According to the release, the lorry was proceeding east along the northern side of the Toroparo Trail, descending a hill when the driver lost control. It turned turtle several times. As a result, the driver was flung out onto the trail, while the porter was pinned by the motor lorry. They both sustained bodily injuries.
The release said the lorry driver was conscious, but the porter was unconscious state when they were picked up and transported by public-spirited persons to the medic in the area. Davis was pronounced dead on arrival there. The lorry driver was treated and sent away and is now assisting police with the investigation.
