The Ministry of Health (MoH) last week began distribution of Starkey Evolv hearing aids to persons across the country.
Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, told Stabroek News that some 250 persons benefitted and it was heartwarming to see especially children hearing properly.
Anthony informed that those persons who received the aids last week had been screened prior and were notified to collect them at the Disabilities and Rehabilitation Services at the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre in South Cummingsburg, Georgetown.
The average cost for the Starkey Evolv hearing aids is about $60,000 and the minister noted that the MoH was pleased to be able to spare persons that expense. He added that since the implementation of the programme, over 500 have benefitted.
Persons who have been diagnosed with hearing impediments and subsequently prescribed hearing aids can contact the MoH for further information on how they can be recipients during the free hearing aids distribution exercise.
