A West Canje Berbice man was yesterday freed after he was found not guilty on five counts of sexual assault on a minor in 2020.
Jamal Anthony Arjune, 31, of Lot 16 Mount Sinai, West Canje Ber-bice, was on trial before Justice Navindra Singh at the High Court in Berbice.
He was represented by Attorney at Law, Tuanna Hardy, while the state was represented by Attorney at Law, Nafeeza Baig.
The man was accused of raping the minor once on 30 September, 2020, and then four times between October, 2020 and December, 2020.
The state’s case was that the victim during ages 12 to 13 years spent most of her time in a riverine community with her family where the assault was first allegedly committed by the man.
However, a jury yesterday found Arjune not guilty on each count.
