Dear Editor,
Several media houses have been carrying the news item regarding the illegal mining operation that was found in the New River area. Almost all have been saying that the location is in the South Rupununi. This is geographically incorrect since New River is a tributary of the Corentyne (and hence our dispute with Suriname) and located in Region #6 – East Berbice/Corentyne while the South Rupununi is located in Region #9 – Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo.
Here’s hoping that future media articles will correct this geographical error.
