Berbice registered a six-wicket win over Demerara early on the final day of their first-round match in the Guyana Cricket Board senior Inter-County four-day tournament.
At the National Stadium, Providence, Demerara converted their 13-run lead to 107 after being bowled for 157 in 64.4 overs. Berbice then reached 110 for four in 14.2 overs.
Demerara opener, Sachin Singh converted his overnight score of 37 to 66 from 173 balls as he hammered seven fours and a six.
Singh added 85 for the fourth wicket alongside Leon Johnson who made 34 from 98 balls. He stroked five boundaries along the way. Apart from Christopher Barnwell’s 17 and 23 extras, no other batsmen reached double figures as Kevin Sinclair bagged an impressive 6-43.
Berbice were rocked early on by Barnwell who removed both openers as the Ancient county slipped to 9-3 by the fifth over but Anthony Bramble shifted gear and raced to 51 not out from 26 balls. He blasted nine fours and a six while adding 52 for the fourth wicket with Jonathan Foo who made 31 from 15 balls. He carved two sixes and four fours. Sinclair returned to see his side
over the line with 13 not out from 19 balls.
The other first-round match will begin today with Essequibo and Select XI clashing at the same venue from 10.00 hours.
