Police yesterday found a bag containing 260 suspected AK47 rounds of ammunition at Kara Kara Creek, South Amelia’s Ward while investigating a report of suspicious persons with large bags in the area.
According to a release from the police, following the report yesterday afternoon a party of police proceeded to the area in search of wanted persons, drugs, firearms and ammunition. It was during this search they observed one orange Karibee Rice brand bag tucked away in a tree trunk. The bag was opened and inside contained a blue cloth bag in which, 260 suspected AK47 rounds of ammunition with the markings NK 1976 at the base was found.
The release further stated that the suspected ammunition was taken to Mackenzie Police Station, where it was photographed and placed into self-sealing evidence bags, marked and lodged with the station Sergeant.
No one was arrested.
