Former Deputy Mayor of George-town, member of the Alliance for Change (AFC), former president of the Georgetown Cricket Club, and businessman, Lionel Jaikaran, 57, of Parade Street, Kingston, George-town, was found dead at his home.
Reports are that Jaikaran’s body was found motionless in his living room in a sitting position. Commander Simon McBean told Stabroek News that no marks of violence were seen on the body. His housekeeper discovered the body on Friday morning at about 08.00 hours. According to the information received, Jaikaran suffered from hypertension and was last seen alive on Tuesday by his housekeeper.
President of the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), Timothy Tucker, praised Jaikaran for his contributions to the cricket club, pointing out that that he was the longest serving president of the club for ten years. He was described as a pleasant individual who positively impacted the cricket club and its employees. GCC deeply mourns the death of Jaikaran and has extended its condolences to the family.
Jaikaran was an APNU+AFC Councillor from 2016-2020, and served as Deputy Mayor of Georgetown between 2016 and 2018. As the tragic news circulated on Friday morning, many friends and loved one shared memories of the man on social media.
