Reckless and dangerous driving on the Railway Embankment from Mon Repos to Sheriff Street

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my concern about the reckless and dangerous driving that I have observed on the roads especially on the Railway Embankment on the East Coast, during the one way driving from Mon Repos to Sheriff Street at the morning peak hours on weekdays. It is becoming increasingly alarming, and I fear for the safety of myself, my family, and other drivers, and pedestrians on the roadway.

The problem of crazy driving seems to be getting worse each day. And no traffic ranks or patrol can be seen during the early morning, it seemed like the traffic ranks on the East Coast of Demerara start their shifts at 8am. I have seen drivers speeding, running red lights, swerving in and out of lanes, and engaging in other reckless behaviour on a regular basis. There should be more police presence on the roads and not at 7pm at the Sparendaam Police station for daily stop and search.

Editor, more awareness campaigns should be launched by the Guyana Police Force or the Ministry of Home Affairs to educate the public on the one-way driving arrangement on the Railway Embankment during the weekdays. This could include driver education programs, public service announcements, and other forms of outreach.

Sincerely,

M. Singh
