An unbeaten century from national batsman, Kemol Savory, drove Essequibo to a 271-run win over the Select XI in their first-round clash in the Guyana Cricket Board’s senior Inter-County four-day clash.
At the National Stadium, Providence on the final day yesterday, Essequibo built on their 95-run lead in the first innings and extended it to 392 after declaring on 297 for eight in just 56 overs. The Select XI were bowled out for 121 in 33.3 overs.
Essequibo’s second innings was muscled by Savory who struck 16 boundaries during his 138-ball 100 not out.
The wicketkeeper/batsman added 92 for the seventh wicket with Quinten Sampson who raced to 71 from 38 balls, hitting five sixes and nine fours.
Savory also joined forces with his captain, Antony Adams, and the pair added 56 runs for the sixth wicket. Adams made 30 from 44 balls, his innings laced with seven boundaries before he was trapped leg before wicket by left-arm spinner, Kevin Umroa.
Cameos also came from Avinash Persaud (23), Keemo Paul (18) and Malcolm Hubbard (16). Off-spinner, Jonathan Rampersaud bagged 3-64 while Sylus Tyndall and Umroa picked up two wickets each.
In the chase, Hubbard returned to take 4-29 while Adams grabbed 4-44 including the wickets of Carlos La Rose and Zeynul Ramsammy off of successive deliveries.
National under-19 captain, Alvin Mohabir top scored for the Select XI with 33 from 55 balls while skipper and former Test opener, Rajendra Chandrika made 26 from 32 balls.
