Quick action by the Guyana Fire Service [GFS] averted the complete destruction of a building at Lot 97 Hadfield Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgtown.
At approximately 17:12 p.m. yesterday, the Guyana Fire Service responded to a report of a house on fire at the said location. Water tenders and an ambulance from the Central and West Ruimveldt fire stations were dispatched to the location where a one-story wooden and concrete building was threatened by fire, the result of a lighted gas stove left unattended. Firefighters managed to put out the blaze, saving the building and its contents, which suffered no damage.
The GFS continues to advise citizens to exercise caution and follow safety measures to avoid fires in the home. The GFS advises citizens to equip their homes with fire prevention and firefighting devices such as smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, and educate family members on the dangers of fire and its prevention.
