Kindly permit me space in your newspaper to highlight a very disgusting situation at the Enmore Hope Primary School. A few days ago, I visited a relative who has a child attending the said school. The child came home with a letter from the school demanding that every month the parent has to send $ 500 as part of funding raising for the school. What is also ridiculous is that the kids are being forced to donate $50 for the printing of test papers. So I enquired for the child of my relative what happens if he doesn’t pay the $50 to which he replied that he was told that he wouldn’t be able to get the test papers to write his tests.
With these revelations, I’m beginning to wonder what the PTA body is doing to raise funds for the school, other than bullying and extorting parents through their kids. Further, I was told that there has been no PTA elections since before the pandemic.
I stand to be corrected but that’s what I was told. Editor, I’m at a loss to comprehend all of this, as on one hand, the Minister of Education had been saying that education is free and children should not be paying for anything from the school, but on the other hand, that’s not the case. Editor, parents are already finding it hard with the high increase in cost of living and to now demand of them to pay an additional fee for their child/ children education is pressing.
