Hustlers, Young Gunners, Hard-Knocks and Ituni were among the winners when the maiden edition of the ‘Republic Classic Beach Football Championship’ commenced on Saturday evening at the Christianburg ground, Linden.
Hustlers crushed Golden Stars 3-0 whilst Young Gunners defeated Young Kings 3-1. On the other hand, Ituni downed Aoirima 2-0 while Hard-Knocks edged Golden Stars 3-2.
In other results, Aoirima defeated Kuru-Kuru 5-2 while Kwakwani United and Hi-Stars played to a 1-1 draw. Kwakwani United in their second match, battled to a 2-2 stalemate with Dave and Celina R9. The event continues tomorrow at the same venue. The winner of the tournament will pocket $300,000 and the corresponding trophy, with the second, third, and fourth place finishers receiving $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 apiece and the respective accolade.
Similarly, prizes will also be awarded for the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Best Goalkeeper, Most Goals Scored and Most Disciplined Team.
