Former Guyana Open champion Mike Mangal continued his impressive form this season when he carted off last weekend’s Trophy Stall sponsored golf tournament at the Lusignan Golf Club, East Coast Demerara.

Coming off his successful run in the Demerara Mutual Insurance tournament recently, Mangal made it two in a row with victory last Saturday in another dominant performance.

Playing in the first flight (0-16) with an 8 handicap, Mangal recorded a net 68 and gross 76 to secure both titles to signal his intensions as the local golf season intensifies. He had also won both trophies at the Demerara Mutual tournament.

National ladies champion Shanella London (handicap 10) captured the second position with a net 70 winning on a countback from third place finisher Gavin Todd (21 handicap) who also recorded a net score of 70.

Rakesh Harry was Nearest to the Pin and had the Longest Drive in tough conditions with intermittent showers.

Speaking after his victory Mangal said he is working hard to be selected to participate in the Suriname Open later this year.

“I am very happy as I played well and did better than last week as it relates to the points system. I have 20 points now, so I am working hard to be selected to go to the Suriname Open. The course was tough especially when the rain but in the end it was okay,” he added.

Lusignan Golf Club’s Public Relations Officer Paton George expressed gratitude to Trophy Stall for being a devoted sponsor for over 20 years and he encouraged other sponsors to come on board.

He added that Trophy Stall continues to be a major sponsor of sports events in Guyana and has extended its support through its new store in Queens, New York.
