Massive centuries from Sachin Singh and Tevin Imlach followed by a six-wicket haul from Ashmead Nedd spurred Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) to a draw against Malteenoes Sports Club in the Georgetown Cricket Association/GISE/Star Party Rentals/Trophy Stall two-day first-division tournament over the weekend.
Hosts, DCC won the toss and opted to bat first and piled up 387 for four in 79.1 overs before declaring.
Malteenoes responded with 227 all out in 45.4 overs before DCC closed the match on 70 for two after 11 overs.
DCC’s first innings was carried by former West Indies under-16 captain, Singh, who clubbed seven sixes and 15 fours during his 215-balll 179.
Before Singh was trapped leg before wicket to Shemroy Barrington, he added 291 for the second wicket with Imlach, who scored 150 not out. Imlach’s 184-ball onslaught saw him hitting two sixes and 10 fours.
Barrington also had two quick strikes to end with 3-61 while cameos came from Christopher Barnwell (19 not out) and Jadon Campbell (16).
Left-arm spinner, Nedd kept Malteenoes in line, bagging 6-47 and ensuring DCC a comfortable first innings dominance. Daniel Ross top scored with 52 from 59 balls. His innings was highlighted by two sixes and six fours.
He added 73 for the seventh wicket with Nichosie Barker who made 41 from 75 balls, highlighted by five boundaries. Earlier,
Barrington added 55 for the opening partnership with Judel McAllister (10) as he raced to 44 from 26 balls. His innings was laced with three sixes and three fours before he was run out by Daniel Mootoo. Nedd then ensured Malteenoes lost four wickets for five runs.
Trevon France was left stranded on 35 from 26 balls while Jeremiah Scott made 33 from 35 balls.
In DCC’s second innings, Mark Cumberbatch bagged 2-31 as Barnwell closed on 43 not out from 28 balls after hitting five sixes and two fours. Shemar Yearwood was on 19 not out from 30 balls, the pair sharing in an unbroken 64-run partnership for the third wicket.
