South Ruimveldt businessman gets 3 years for drug trafficking

Businessman Troy Jacobs who in 2021 was nabbed with narcotics by the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) was yesterday found guilty of the offence of drug trafficking following the conclusion of a trial and was sentenced to a three-year term of imprisonment.

The trial for 48-year-old Jacobs of Penny Lane, South Ruimveldt Gardens, Georgetown, was heard in Court 11 of the Georgetown Magistrates Court before Magistrate Annette Singh.

In February of 2021, Jacobs along with two other men were charged with trafficking 3.156 kilograms of cannabis and were each placed on $500,000 bail. The two other men were identified as Ivor Anderson, a visually impaired man of Region Eight, and Perez Cush, a barber of Newton, Kitty, Georgetown.

However, when Jacobs appeared for the last day of his trial yesterday, he was told that he was found guilty of the offence and as such was sentenced to 3 years behind bars and fined $2,367,000.

On February 12, 2021, Jacobs was driving motor vehicle, PZZ 3304, a white Mercedes Benz convertible, when he and others were arrested by agents of CANU for alleged possession of 3.156 kilogrammes of cannabis.
