The Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) has a long list comprising 18 athletes to represent the Golden Arrowhead at this year’s CARIFTA Games scheduled for Easter weekend in the Bahamas.
This and other details were disclosed by head of the association, Aubrey Hutson yesterday.
Hutson told this publication that a “numerical submission of athletes ” had to be sent to NACAC last week but the official naming of the team, management and coaching staff will be announced “later this week” or next week.
The AAG boss further disclosed that two-time CARIFTA Games javelin gold medalist, USA based, Anisha Gibbons will spearhead the outfit which could also include other overseas based athletes, Seon Booker and Wesley Noble Jr.
Booker and Noble are Under 20 athletes competing in the 800m and 400m events.
On the local scene, eight athletes met or surpassed the qualifying standard set by the AAG to clinch a berth at the regional showpiece.
They are sprinters, Ezekiel Newton, Tianna Springer, Malachai Austin and Athaley Hinckson.
Middle distance maestros, and medalists at last year’s CARIFTA Games in Jamaica, Attoya Harvey and Javon Roberts along with jumpers, Tamera Harvey and Ezekiel Saul.
The 50th editor of the Games is set for April 7-10 at the Thomas Robinson Stadium in Nassau. At last year’s Games in Jamaica, Team Guyana finished with seven medals (two gold medals, three silver and two bronze) from its 14 representatives.
