Orlando Douglas who had been charged back in 2018 with the murders of Pandit Deonarine Liliah and his son, Omkar Liliah; was recently set free after a Judge upheld a no-case submission in his favour.
Following the conclusion of Douglas’ trial some weeks ago, High Court Judge Jo-Ann Barlow discharged the former accused, after finding that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against him.
With the Court’s finding that there was no case for Douglas to answer, the Judge directed the jury to return a formal verdict of not guilty, thereby setting him free.
The Pandit’s and his son’s partially-decomposed bodies were found in their Lot 25 Craig and Delph streets, Campbellville home with multiple stab wounds.
The allegation against Douglas had been that between July 7th, and 10th, 2018; he murdered the men at their Craig Street, Campbellville, home.
The discovery was made after their tenant, Leewattie Ganpat a home aid worker, reported that a strong stench was emanating from the upper-flat of the house.
Police later went to the home and found the father and son lying in pools of blood.
Investigators had surmised that the men had been killed during an apparent robbery.
