The skeletal remains, suspected to be those of 55-year-old Basmattie Seenanon, called Savitree, of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, were found at about 10 am on Tuesday at the woman’s home at Lot 43 Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo.
The police say that according to information received, the woman was last seen alive sometime around July or August 2022. At about 10 am on March 7, the woman’s 39-year-old nephew of Zeelugt was playing Phagwah in the area and decided to check on her. That is when the discovery was made.
The skeletal remains were found on a bed in the upper flat of Savitree’s two-storey house. Around the skeleton on the bed, a quantity of garbage was seen. Neighbours and other persons were questioned in the area.
The deceased woman’s brother-in-law, a 61-year-old mechanic in the area, said Savitree had suffered a mental breakdown. She used to distance herself from family members and was abusive to people around the community, the police said.
