19 wickets fell on the opening day of the second round clash in the Guyana Cricket Board senior inter-county four-day tournament between Essequibo and Berbice yesterday.
At the Enmore Community Centre Cricket Club, Berbice won the toss and elected to bat. However, the relatively inexperienced side, absent of their main core, were bundled out for just 94 in 38.4 overs. Essequibo then closed the day on 156 for nine after toiling for 49 overs, establishing a 62-run lead over Berbice.
Left-arm spinner, Ricardo Adams showed the selectors he has plenty in the tank and staked a claim for a national recall after ending with 5-25 from 14 overs.
