Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) defeated Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) by 38 runs in the Georgetown Cricket Association/ Atlantic Marine Supplies Incorporated Suzuki motorcycles second division T20 tournament recently.
MYO won the toss and elected to bat first at Queen’s College and piled on 209 for seven in their allotted 20 overs. DCC were contained to 171 for six by the time their overs expired.
Former youth all-rounder, Leon Swamy hammered nine sixes and five fours during his 42-ball onslaught as he climbed up to a top score of 87.
Swamy added 83 for the fifth wicket with Bepaul Bandoo who muscled his way to 70 not out from 43 balls. Bandoo clubbed six sixes and five fours during his innings.
Extras had the next best tally with 13 while Yogendra Singh and Alex Algoo made 12 runs each.
Off-spinner, Ezekiel Wilson was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2-44 while Wavell Allen supported with 2-31.
DCC looked set to mow down the total as Brandon Jaikaran struck six sixes and eight fours during his unbeaten 92 from 61 balls.
The opener shared in a 65-run partnership for the first wicket with Jamal Deheon who made 32 from 22 balls. Deheon carved three sixes and two fours.
However, quick strikes from Algoo to remove Dexter George and Wilson to reduce DCC to 84 for four by the end of the 11th over.
Yayden Dowlin was the only batsman to reach double figures with 10 while extras accounted for 25. Algoo eventually ended with 3-23 while Marlon Boele supported with 2-31.
