The Marlborough Primary and Nursery schools are now connected to solar electricity supply.
This has been accomplished via a 6kWp Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system along with a 28.8kWh Valve-Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) solar system, thanks to the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA). The solar system was installed in February, 2023.
In its press release, the GEA said that the electricity upgrade at the schools were in keeping with Government’s sustainable energy interventions for communities and public buildings in the hinterland. Both Marlborough Primary and Nursery schools are located on the Pomeroon River approximately 12 km downstream from Charity, Essequibo in Region 2. The release said that the GEA, in keeping with its mandate, provided transportation and installation of the solar PV and battery energy storage systems’ support.
GEA said that this initiative will provide a renewable, stable, and reliable electricity supply to the schools and the school’s kitchen for its daily activities, benefiting approximately seventy-four pupils, ten teachers and five ancillary staff. The teachers, according to GEA, expressed their gratitude for the initiative, stating that the solar system will allow them to better utilise the school’s services and enhanced learning opportunities for the pupils. GEA’s engineer provided operational and system maintenance training to seven school personnel.
