A comprehensive Traffic Plan

Dear Editor,

One notes the continuing complaints of so many survivors, as well as Editorials, about the increasing numbers and types of road accidents, resulting primarily from our poor Traffic Management. Surely those involved should be organised into a series of workshops in which they can freely brainstorm what remedial action is necessary, that is apart from they themselves being trustworthy as Traffic Controllers.

It is hardly enough for them to be scolded. rather they should rise above their limitations and be bold enough to recommend to their leaderships that the latter urgently construct an Invitation of Interest to appropriately qualified international experts who would advise in remedying, and preferably implementing a comprehensive Traffic Plan, obviously including Parking, which in any case should be the joint responsibility of Public agencies and Private businesses (e.g. Hotels).

But then it is the presence of Exxon and colleagues that would have enticed this precipitate invasion, indeed confusion. Perhaps therefore they should make a remedial offer that the Government and citizens cannot refuse, taking into consideration the prospect of:

          a) 50,000 jobs.

          b) six new hospitals.

implying quite a large number of newly licensed drivers.

The anti-tourist confusion which surrounds our Parliament Building should be given first priority, including the stilted Stabroek Clock, in a well-oiled Transport Management programme.

What will be the future of Draycarts!!!
