Dear Editor,
Recently Albouystown has been in the headlines and focus of all things representing Guyana. I am old enough to know that the place where Manzoor Nadir and Hamilton Green as well as yours truly once lived has always played a crucial part in politics. The folks from Albouys-town are most willing to get into the nitty gritty of electioneering quid pro quo.
So I am not surprised following the announcement of elections in 2025, the political parties and their acolytes are in full with implementation of the “Albouys-town Offence” tantamount to the BJP in India, JLP in Jamaica and Sinn Fein in Ireland to name a few with like-minded tactics.
I hope that my supposition does not become reality because the old apparatchiks like myself, Hamilton and Manzoor are no longer interested in useless dogma of party politics….
Guyana should be proud or not that there is only but a slight coating of imperialism, communism and socialism remaining in the national psyche. It has all been replaced by a deep intrusion of youthful consumerism. So I say let the centre of campaigning be that of tax free importation of Ferraris and flat panel Televisions and everything in between. Alternatively, there should be a serious attempt to clone Bharrat Jagdeo, bar none the most formidable Guyanese politician of this era…for starters, he is always pragmatic while making little or no references to bygone PPP doctrines.
Yours faithfully,
Keith Bernard
