The Panthers Rugby Club mauled the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) unit 45-26 when the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) 12’s tournament continued yesterday at the National Park.
Thanks to standout winger Godfrey Broomes, the white, purple and black clad outfit led wire-to-wire and went on to dominate the militia men on both sides of the ball in both halves.
Broomes helped the Panthers to sweep aside GDF by scoring two tries and nailing five conversions in a tactical clinic put on in front of a small but animated crowd.
In perfect conditions for playing rugby, the rampant Panthers were always in control of the one-sided affair, testament to the scoreline.
Broomes was helped by D’Arcy Durant who also scored a brace. The dynamic pair were complemented with a try apiece by Delroy Fordyce, Kareem Fisher and Makayah Smith.
Avery Corbin, Jamal Darrel, Akeno James and Leon Cole all breached the try line for GDF while Kevin Wills buried two conversions to make the score more respectable.
The league continues on Sunday at the same venue.
