Santa Rosa, West Ruimveldt and Mackenzie High registered lopsided wins when the ninth Milo Secondary Schools Football Championship continued yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
Santa Rosa crushed New Amsterdam 8-0. Roy Vansluytman bagged a hat-trick in the 10th, 50th and 53rd minute whilst Deon Chappelle bagged a double in the 15th and 46th minute. Supporting goals in the 17th and 70th minute were scored by Rockwell Harris and Nelon Lucas respectively while an own goal in the 34th minute added to the score.
Similarly, West Ruimveldt mauled Vergenoegen 8-1. Elijah Sataur crafted five goals in the seventh, 12th, 16th, 53rd, and 63rd minute. Contributing a double was Donovan Welcome in the 34th and 55th minute while Jaden Jackson scored in the 14th minute. For the losers, Quon Jackman netted in the 37th minute.
Likewise, Mackenzie dismissed President’s College 4-1. The quartet of Jevon Dennis, Joel Siland, Azainneo Benjamin and Aaron Murray scored in the fifth, 31st, 34th, and 60th minute respectively. For the losers, Eleton Lewis scored in the 49th minute.
In other results, Charity and New Central battled to a 1-1 stalemate. The event continues on March 18th. The event will feature 32 teams competing in an initial group stage format comprising eight groups of four. The top two finishers from each pool will advance to the round of 16 stage.
The winner of the event will pocket $300,000 towards a school project and the championship trophy, with the second, third, and fourth place finishers walking away with $200,000, $100,000, and $75,000 respectively for a school initiative and the corresponding accolade.
