Dear Editor,
Decades in the industry but in a blink of an eye tragedy strikes and man and machine are sucked under. Heart breaking for family, friends and colleagues. It is of concern that the conditions of the area being worked, is only now being recognized that the “ground itself” had safety concerns, hence the informed decision to suspend the search operations. It must be lamented why this concern was not paramount when the operator was detailed to work the area? Safety issues and lack thereof, it can be queried, might have played a part in the enormity of this tragedy. My thoughts are with everyone affected by this disaster.
Sincerely,
Shamshun Mohamed
