Hard-knocks, Underdogs, and Young Gunners registered wins when the maiden edition of the ‘Republic Classic Beach Football Championship’ resumed Sunday evening at the Christianburg ground, Linden.
Hard-knocks overcame HH Ballers 4-3. Meanwhile, Underdogs dismissed Kwakwani Strikers 5-2 and secured a walkover result against Dave and Celina’s R9.
In other results, Young Gunners shot past Coomacka Mines 2-0; Coomacka Mines won via walkover against Young Kings; Timehri Panthers and Aroaima battled to a 3-3 draw and HH Ballers crushed Golden Stars 4-1.
The event continues Saturday at the same venue with the quarterfinals.
The winner of the tournament will pocket $300,000 and the corresponding trophy, with the second, third, and fourth place finishers receiving $200,000, $100,000, and $50,000 apiece and the respective accolade.
Similarly, prizes will also be awarded for the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Best Goalkeeper, Most Goals Scored, and Most Disciplines Team.
