A Cotton Field man was left counting his blessings after surviving a chopping attack by a family member on Sunday night.
Fifty-three-year-old Romeo Simon of Cotton Field, Essequibo Coast, and a father of eight, was chopped to his head, hand, and chest by a relative of his daughter-in-law. He told Stabroek News that he is currently in pain after the injuries.
In recalling the event, Simon said he received a call on Sunday night from his attacker to go to their home as his son had been injured. Upon his arrival, he saw that his son had not been injured, but instead he was attacked. Simon said that an argument had ensued which resulted in his daughter-in-law’s relative arming himself with a cutlass and chopping him in his head, hand, and shoulders.
“I asked them ‘what really y’all doing’, they started an argument, it’s always a family feud but I really went because they said my son was not well so I went to see he” Simon related.
His wife, Ranie Simon, said that she received a call that her husband was injured. She immediately took him to the Suddie Public Hospital where he received medical treatment.
She noted that her husband is currently confined to bed and is in pain. She also called for justice as her husband works as a labourer to take care of his eight children but is now incapacitated.
The police are currently investigating.
