A 23-year-old Soesdyke teacher yesterday found herself in hot water when she appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where sentencing was deferred after she pleaded guilty to a charge of simple larceny committed on her ex-boyfriend.

The charge which was brought against Nickacia Sobers of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara (EBD), states that on December 20th, 2022 at Avenue of the Republic, she stole $467,000 in cash from Richard Brathwaite.

During the proceedings yesterday, the court heard that Sobers and Brathwaite were involved in a relationship which ended on the day the young woman stole the man’s money. It was stated that Brathwaite operates a shoe stall at the corner of Avenue of the Republic and Robb Street and during their time together Sobers would frequently visit his stall.
