Dear Editor,
A few days ago I visited the seawalls area behind the Marriott Hotel for the first time, and I encountered a most pleasurable surprise. The scenery and recent facelift made this location a very enjoyable experience. From the spacious parking area, to the tree covered zone, to walking in the sand, and especially to the seating facilities and rails at the edge of the shore, which extended along the jetty protruding into the ocean, all made for a most pleasurable and relaxing evening. While seated, enjoying the sea breeze and gazing over the rapidly changing skyline of the city, my eyes perused this beach area and observed that there is a lot of space to further develop the beach.
For starters, the area should be zoned. Parking areas should be set aside. Likewise, vending should be done in a structured manner, similar to what is being done near the bandstand. But what I would most like to suggest to our policy makers is to convert the relatively vast area presently under-developed into a sports recreational facility. Beach volleyball and football are very popular sports along beaches all over the world. How about using this undeveloped area and construct sports courts for these games? Install floodlights and make this area a hive of sports activities. Such a development would further make this venue a unique and top class recreational facility. Here’s hoping that such an idea is embraced by the seawall development committee.
Sincerely,
M. Abraham
