The Guyana Harpy Eagles are comfortably in control of their third-round clash in the West Indies four-day championships against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force after establishing a healthy 260-run lead at the end of day two at Tarouba.
Eagles were bowled out for 324 on day one but were batting again at close on day two on 96 for three after 34 overs in their second innings since their bowlers dismissed Red Force for 160 in 52 overs.
Fast bowling duo, Ronsford Beaton and Keemo Paul rocked the batting order while getting support from the ever-consistent left-arm spinner, Veerasammy Permaul.
Beaton showed his ferociousness, taking 4-31 while Paul and Permaul took three wickets each.
It was Paul who got the early breakthrough to remove both openers, Jeremy Solozano and Keagan Simmons for 15 runs each while Beaton got the prized wicket of Darren Bravo, also for 15 as Red Force slipped to 59 for three by the 21st over.
Jason Mohammed, however, fortified the innings with an even 50 from 101 balls. He struck seven boundaries along the way and added 58 for the fourth wicket with Jyd Goolie who made 22 before Paul got the breakthrough with his wicket.
Amir Jangoo showed short-lived resistance at the bottom of the order with 16 but the innings was quickly wrapped up as Red Force lost their last five wickets for just 10 runs.
Eagles’ top order struggled once again to lay the foundation with Tevin Imlach making three and debutant Kevlon Anderson falling for 15 to Bravo for the second time in the match.
Matthew Nandu struck four boundaries during his 65-ball 33 and added 49 runs for the fourth wicket with Kemol Savory.
Savory is currently unbeaten on 34 from 76 balls after hitting one four and one six. He is at the crease with his captain, Leon Johnson who is on nine not out from 22 balls. The match resumes today at 10.00 hours.
