Bladen Hall and Covent Garden schools among top winners at STEAM fair

This year’s STEAM fair, a two-day event was held from the 14th to15th of March at the Hope Secondary School, under the theme “Transforming Education through Innovation and STEAM” and Bladen Hall Multi-lateral and Covent Garden Secondary were among the top winners.

Upper Secondary

Bladen Hall Multilateral won first place under the category of Social Behavioural Science. The title of their project was “The Journey of Comprehenders”. Beterverwagting Secondary won second place with their project, “Drug Abuse.” Friendship Secondary took first place in the Integrated Science category and the title of their project was “Green Village”. Buxton Secondary won second place with their project “Hydro Farm”, while Beterverwagting Secondary came third place with their project, “Electrolysis”.

In the category of Agricultural Science, Covent Garden Secondary was first with their project, “Irrigation System for Future Advance”.  Hope Secondary won first place in the category of Environmental Science with their project, “Floating City”. Ann’s Grove Secondary took second place with “Energy Conversion”, while Plaisance Secondary came in third place with their project, “Eco Polyethylene Tiles”.

Friendship Secondary grabbed another first spot, this time in the category of Home Economics with their project, “Mandy Dandy.” President’s College came second with their project, “Using local and organic produce”, while Hope Secondary took third place with their project, “Upcycle Creations.”

Under the category of Craft and Visual Arts, Alpine Academy won first place with their project, “Bird of Paradise Flower.” In the Mathematics category, Diamond Secondary won first place with “The Matic Boy”. In second spot was Covent Garden Secondary with their project, “Integrating Elevation and Depreciation in Real Life Situations”, while Bladen Hall Secondary was third with “Reducing Road Accidents Through Speed Awareness.”     

Covent Garden had better luck in the Information Technology category where they took first place with their project, “Smart Classroom”, while Golden Grove Secondary took the second spot with “CSEC Techbot – The Smart Way To Secure Your Future.” 

Diamond Secondary won first place in the category of Chemistry with their project, “Cow Waste to Paper”, while Bladen Hall struck again with a second and third place win with their projects, “Milk Based Paint”, and “Making A Beauty Product From Natural Ingre-dients”.  Meanwhile, Annandale Secondary won first place in the Physics category with their project, “The Whirlpool Vortex Turbine to Create Alternative Sources of Energy.”

Bladen Hall was third time lucky and finally grabbed first place in the category of Industrial Technology with their winning project, “Engineering Design and Furniture making.” Presidents College took yet another second spot with their project, “A Self-Sustainable Hydropower Energy Source” and Buxton Secondary won third place with their project, “Inter-Wooden Arts.”

President’s College finally grabbed a first place win in the Open category with their project, “WASP – Wind and Solar Power.”

Lower Secondary

Covent Garden Secondary School again took first place, this time in the category of Social and Behavioural Science, the title of their project was “Sound Proof Head Phones”. Beterverwagting Secondary School won first place in the category of Integrated Science with their project, “The Effects of Beverages on the Teeth of School Children.” Kuru Kuru Primary Top came in second place with their project, “Use of Holographic Videos to Teach Science”.

 Lancaster Secondary won first place in the Environmental Science category with their project, “The Water Goat Solution to Water Pollution.” Covent Garden Secondary took first place in the category of Home Economics with their “Nine Layer Density Liquid Powder”, with Paradise Primary Top in second with their project, “All About The Marvelous Mango”, and Lancaster Secondary rounding out third place with “The Benefits and Uses of Tamarindus indica.”

 St Cuthbert’s Secondary won first place in the category of Craft and Visual Arts with “Entrepreneurship Through Cultural Creativity”.  Beterverwagting Secondary took first place in the category of Mathematics with their  “Electronic compass”, with Annandale Secondary in second spot with their offering, “The Use of the Balance Method When Solving Algebraic Equa-tions”. And finally, Hope Secondary School won first place in the Information Technology category with their project, “Automated Mouse.”

In the Best Orals category, first place went to Diamond Secondary, with Beterverwagting Secondary getting second, and Covent Garden Secondary in third. In the Best Display category, Diamond Secondary again took top honours with their Mathematics display as well as the second spot with their Che-mistry display. Third place was given to Annandale Secondary. In the Best Booklet category, Diamond Secondary again triumphed, making it a clean sweep in all three categories, with Covent Garden Secondary placing second and President’s College in third. 

However, despite Diamond Secondary’s impressive sweep of the three categories, Covent Garden Secondary was judged Best and Most Outstanding Overall Secondary School.   

 Primary schools

Starting off with the Science category, Timehri Primary won first place with “Food Preservation”, with Montrose Primary taking second place with their project, “Know Your NDA”, and Chateau Margot Primary in third place with “Neem It Up”.

In the Craft and Visual Arts category, Cane Grove Primary won first place with their project, “Transformation of Household Garbage. La Bonne Intention Primary came second with “A Wonderful World of Pallets” and Annandale Primary was third place with “Pianta in Diversity”.

In the Mathematics category, Mocha Arcadia Primary won first place with their project, “Math Craze”, Virginia Primary won second place with “Geometrical Concepts Through Play in Reality” while Enmore Primary came third place with “Mathematical Games to Enhance Critical Thinking”.

In the Environmental Science category Grove Primary won first place with their project, “Green Friendly Environment”,  Mon Repos Primary took second with “The Primary Level to Promote Food Security”, while Cane Grove Primary took third place with their project, “Rice Fields Burning Substitute”.

The Best Overall Oral Presentations category was won by Grove Primary School, with second place going to Cane Grove Primary School, and third place to Annandale Primary School.

For Best Overall Booklet, Diamond Primary was awarded first place, Supply Primary took second spot and La Bonne Intention Primary came in third.

The winner of Best Displays Projects was Timehri Primary, with La Bonne Intention Primary and Cane Grove Primary in second and third respectively.

Best overall Primary School was adjudged to be Cane Grove Primary School.

Nursery

In the Mathematics Village category Soesdyke #2 Nursery won first place with their project, “Dive into Math Fun”, with Diamond Nursery in second place with “The Correct Forma-tion of Numerals 2 and 5”, and Grove Nursery in third place with their project, “The Recycling Village for Maths”. Mocha Arcadia Nursery took fourth place with “Mathematics in Real Life”.

In the Science category, Hand-en-Veldt Nursery was awarded first place for their project, “Health is Wealth, Discovering Benefits of Cactus”, Campbell’s Trust Nursery won second place with “Eco-Village”, while Triumph Nursery won third place with “Air Pollution”. Fourth place was given to Samatta Point Nursery for “The Best Soil for Growing Eschallot”.

The top regional school was Hand-en-Veldt Nursery in the Science category, in second was Soesdyke #2 Nursery in the Mathematics category, with Campbell’s Trust Nursery in third place in the Science category.

Martyr’s Ville Nursery School was awarded Best Overall Nursery.
