A motorcyclist who was alleged to have been speeding died in an accident yesterday along the Friendship Public Road after he lost control of his motorcycle while overtaking another vehicle and collided with a motor lorry.
The dead man has been identified as 42-year-old Daniel Marshall of Lot 45 Albouystown, Georgetown, who was riding motorcycle CK 8679 at the time of the accident. The other vehicle that was involved in the accident was motor lorry, GTT 345, which was being driven by 40-year-old Dale Sylvester Wright.
Police enquiries revealed that at about 06:50 hours on Friday, Marshall was proceeding north along the Friendship Public Road at a fast rate when he attempted to overtake a motorcar that was proceeding in the same direction.
Whilst doing so, he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with the right-side rear of the motor lorry which was proceeding in the opposite direction. As a result of the collision, Marshall fell on the roadway where he suffered injuries to his head and body.
He was picked up in an unconscious state by the police and public-spirited persons and placed on the parapet. An ambulance eventually arrived on the scene accompanied by emergency medical technicians who pronounced the man dead.
His body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The driver of the lorry has since been placed in custody and is assisting with investigations.
